Power & Edge
All skaters will spend part of the session working on developing power while refining proper skating technique. Advanced skaters will take their knowledge of edges and build upon it while working on advanced turns, edges within footwork, and turns at speed. Other skating disciplines may also be touched upon at the coach’s discretion. FUNdamentals & FoUNdations
FoUNdations Level Prerequisite: On Basic 6 or Adult 2 through working on Pre-preliminary moves FUNdamentals Level Prerequisite: Passed pre-preliminary MITF or preliminary dance & above Skaters will rotate through stations where they will spend focused time breaking down jumps, spins, turns, and skating skills. Ice Dance
Level Prerequisite: Must have passed Basic 4 Ice Dancing is one of the principle disciplines in figure skating, and one upon which the Southern NH Skating Club was built! Skaters will begin – or continue – to learn the dance patterns required for US Figure Skating’s dance tests, while focusing on the proper steps, technique and understanding of music counts and tempos. Depending on level of mastery, skaters may be ready to test these dances at a USFS test session! Figures Level Prerequisite: Must have passed Pre-Freeskate Learn the moves and patterns that are the basis of figure skating! This discipline, where skaters learn to do edges and turns in a ‘figure eight’ pattern is fundamental to our sport and will help skaters with balance, edge quality, body control, as well as help skaters with the skills that they’ll need for US Figure Skating Moves in the Field tests from Pre-Preliminary Moves and beyond! |
